Everything You Need to Know About the SC-300 Exam
If you administer identity in Microsoft Entra and are eyeing the SC-300, the first thing you probably want is a clear picture of what the exam actually asks and how it is scored. This guide lays out the format, the scoring, and the four domains, then explains how a focused SC-300 mock test fits into your prep.
What the SC-300 covers
The Microsoft Identity and Access Administrator (SC-300) validates that you can plan, implement, and operate an organisation's identity and access solution built on Microsoft Entra. That means user and workload identities, authentication and access management, and identity governance. It is a role-based exam aimed at people who already do this work, not a pure theory test.
Format and scoring
Our practise exam is built around a 50-question paper delivered linearly, with a 100-minute allowance. That works out to roughly 120 seconds per question on average, so you have time to read carefully, but not to stall. Microsoft scores the real exam on a 0 to 1000 scale, and the pass mark is 700. That 700 is a scaled score, not a raw percentage, so it does not translate directly to "35 correct out of 50" — treat it as a signal to aim comfortably above the line rather than to squeak past it.
One honest caveat before you rely on any SC-300 mock test. The real SC-300 exam may include interactive components: tasks you carry out against the product rather than answer as multiple choice. This mock is multiple-choice and multiple-response only. It covers every functional group at its published weighting, but you will not practise the interactive interface here. Microsoft publishes no official question count, so the 50-item length is ours; the 700/1000 pass standard is Microsoft's.
Domain weights
The exam is spread across four functional groups. The weights below are taken from Microsoft's published SC-300 study guide and reflect roughly how many questions to expect from each area.
| Domain | Weight |
|---|---|
| Implement and manage user identities | 26% |
| Implement authentication and access management | 26% |
| Plan and implement workload identities | 24% |
| Plan and automate identity governance | 24% |
The striking thing about this blueprint is how flat it is. No single domain dominates, so there is no shortcut of cramming one area and coasting through the rest. User identities and authentication carry the heaviest load at 26% each, but workload identities and governance are close behind at 24%, and each can be the difference between passing and not. Plan to be genuinely competent across all four.
How do I pass SC-300?
How do I pass SC-300 without surprises on exam day? The realistic answer is to combine hands-on time in Entra with steady, measured practice. Do the real configuration — conditional access policies, entitlement management, access reviews, app registrations for workload identities — because the interactive parts of the live exam reward that muscle memory, and no multiple-choice question can substitute for it.
Around that hands-on work, use a mock test to find your weak domains before the exam does. A good practise exam for Microsoft identity should mirror the blueprint weights so your score means something. When you sit our SC-300 mock, treat a low result in, say, governance as a to-do list rather than a verdict, and go back into the product to close the gap. Because our paper is timed at the same 100-minute budget, it also trains your pacing, which matters more than most candidates expect.
When you are ready to benchmark yourself, you can buy a mock test pack and sit a full 50-question run under exam conditions.
A sensible study rhythm
A rhythm that works for many candidates: study one domain at a time, do the matching labs, then take a mixed mock to see how it holds up under time pressure. Repeat until every domain clears the 700-equivalent comfortably, then take one final full-length paper close to your exam date. Reviewing every wrong answer — and understanding why the right one is right — is where the real learning happens, so never skip the explanations.
If you want the full question inventory and current pricing, see the Microsoft Identity and Access Administrator (SC-300) mock test page. When you have your prep plan in place, you can get a mock test pack and start measuring your readiness against a blueprint-faithful paper.
