The GCP Professional Cloud DevOps Engineer Exam

What the Professional Cloud DevOps Engineer exam actually asks of you

If you clicked this hoping for a straight answer to "how do I pass the Professional Cloud DevOps Engineer exam without wasting three months on the wrong material?" - good, that is the right question to lead with. The Google Cloud Professional Cloud DevOps Engineer certification is not a trivia quiz on gcloud flags. It asks whether you can bootstrap a Google Cloud organization, build CI/CD pipelines that ship safely, run production the SRE way, and make performance and cost decisions with evidence rather than vibes.

The exam is 60 questions in 120 minutes, delivered linearly, in multiple-choice and multiple-response format. That works out to roughly two minutes per question, which is generous - until you meet a scenario question with a wall of context and four plausible answers. Google does not publish a numeric pass score for this exam, and it does not publish an official question count on its guide either; you either meet the bar per section or you do not. Before moving on, consider reading AWS DevOps Engineer Professional (DOP-C02): What to Expect.

Domain weightings you should plan around

The single most useful thing you can do before opening any study resource is internalise how the exam is weighted. Two domains dominate: CI/CD pipelines and observability. If you spend equal time on every topic you will under-prepare for the parts that decide the result.

Official domain weightings for the Google Cloud Professional Cloud DevOps Engineer exam
DomainWeight
Bootstrapping and maintaining a Google Cloud organization20%
Building and implementing CI/CD pipelines, including continuous testing, for application, infrastructure, and machine learning workloads25%
Applying site reliability engineering practices18%
Implementing observability practices and troubleshooting issues25%
Optimizing performance and cost12%

Weightings are drawn from Google's official certification guide. Half the exam sits inside CI/CD and observability combined, so those two deserve the majority of your revision hours.

You can turn those domain weights into a schedule that matches your weekly availability with the free Google Cloud Professional Cloud DevOps Engineer study plan.

A study path that matches the blueprint

Start with the org-bootstrapping domain because everything else assumes it. Get comfortable with resource hierarchy, folders, IAM inheritance, VPC Service Controls, org policies, and how landing zones are laid down with Terraform. If you cannot explain why a shared VPC belongs in a host project, this section will punish you. We cover this in depth in Preparing for Microsoft AZ-400 DevOps Solutions.

Then move to CI/CD. Cloud Build, Artifact Registry, Cloud Deploy, deployment strategies (blue-green, canary, rolling), progressive delivery, policy checks, and continuous testing for application, infrastructure, and ML workloads. Practise reading a broken pipeline YAML and spotting the missing step, because that is exactly what the exam does.

For SRE, focus on the vocabulary Google uses in its own SRE books: SLIs, SLOs, error budgets, toil reduction, blameless postmortems, and the tradeoff between reliability and velocity. Expect questions where the "technically correct" fix is wrong because it burns the error budget.

Observability is the other 25% domain. Cloud Logging, Cloud Monitoring, Cloud Trace, Cloud Profiler, log-based metrics, alerting policies, and structured troubleshooting. Know when to reach for a trace versus a metric versus a log query. Readers also benefit from CompTIA Linux+ for DevOps Engineers: Is It Worth It?.

Finish with performance and cost. It is the smallest slice at 12%, but easy points if you know committed use discounts, right-sizing recommendations, and how to read a billing export in BigQuery.

Why a realistic mock test matters here

Reading is not the same as answering under time pressure. A good practise exam for DevOps on GCP forces you to decide, not to hedge. Use a Google Cloud Professional Cloud DevOps Engineer mock test to find your weak domain, then loop back to the study material with a specific target instead of vague "revision". Our Google Cloud Professional Cloud DevOps Engineer mock test is multiple-choice and multiple-response, matches Google's published weighting across every section, and holds you to the same 120-minute limit as the real thing.

A shorter option is the free Google Cloud Professional Cloud DevOps Engineer readiness check, which gives you a quick sense of your weakest topic.

One honest caveat: because Google publishes no question count and no pass score, this mock reports proficiency per section rather than a numeric score - a number would be invented, and inventing one would be worse than reporting nothing. Treat the section proficiencies as your revision map.

Final word

Every question in Google Cloud Professional Cloud DevOps Engineer practice exam questions comes with an explanation, so you learn even when you get it wrong.
