All three UAE licensing exams follow the same general structure:

Pharmacology (15–20%)
Drug classifications, mechanisms of action, common side effects, nursing considerations, and dosage calculations. High-yield topics include antibiotics, anticoagulants, antihypertensives, insulin and oral hypoglycaemics, analgesics (including opioid safety), and cardiac drugs.
Maternal and Child Health (10–15%)
Antenatal care, labour and delivery complications, postpartum assessment, neonatal care, paediatric growth and development, and common childhood illnesses.
Mental Health Nursing (5–10%)
Depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, substance abuse, suicide risk assessment, and therapeutic communication techniques.
Community Health and Infection Control (5–10%)
Standard precautions, isolation protocols, hand hygiene, PPE, immunisation schedules, and public health principles.
Professional Practice and Ethics (5–10%)
Patient rights, informed consent, confidentiality, scope of practice, delegation, documentation, and incident reporting.
6-Week Study Plan

Test Day Tips
- Answer every question. No negative marking means a guess is always better than a blank.
- Read the entire question before looking at the options. Many mistakes come from misreading the scenario.
- For priority questions ('what should the nurse do FIRST?'), think ABCs: Airway, Breathing, Circulation. Then consider Maslow's hierarchy.
- For delegation questions, remember: assess, plan, and evaluate are always the RN's responsibility. Only implementation tasks can be delegated.
- Manage your time. You have approximately 66 seconds per question. If a question takes longer than 90 seconds, mark it and move on.
The Prometric nursing exam is very passable with structured preparation. The 50% pass mark is achievable for any nurse with a solid clinical foundation and four to six weeks of focused study. Do not overthink it — the exam tests fundamental nursing knowledge, not specialist expertise.
