Most people arrive with one question: how do I pass GENAI-ASSOCIATE without wasting weeks on the wrong material? The honest answer is that the Databricks Certified Generative AI Engineer Associate is a tightly scoped, application-focused exam, and the fastest route through it is to prepare against its real shape rather than a general "learn everything about LLMs" plan.

The exam is a linear form of 45 questions with a 90-minute time limit. That works out to roughly 120 seconds per question, which is generous by certification standards - you are not being rushed, so the pressure comes from breadth, not speed. Everything is multiple choice, and the paper walks through the material in a fixed order without adaptive branching.

Read that table as a budget. Application Development and Assembling and Deploying Applications deserve the bulk of your practice questions, while Governance and Evaluation and Monitoring are smaller but still worth deliberate revision because they are the sections candidates most often neglect.

A study plan that fits the paper

Start with Design Applications and Data Preparation. These set up how you frame a generative AI use case, choose an approach, and get your data into a state a retrieval or prompting pipeline can use. They are equal in weight and they feed everything downstream, so front-loading them pays off.

Then move to the heavy middle. Application Development is where you build the actual pipeline - prompting, retrieval, chaining components together - and it is the domain most likely to decide your result. Follow it with Assembling and Deploying Applications, which is about turning that pipeline into something that runs and serves reliably. Practise these two until the question patterns feel familiar rather than surprising.

Finish with the three smaller domains. Governance covers access, lineage, and safe handling of models and data. Evaluation and Monitoring covers how you measure a deployed application and catch drift or quality problems. Neither is large, but a handful of confident marks here often separates a comfortable pass from a nervous one.

Using a mock test honestly
