Quick answer

The clf-c02 exam pattern is 65 questions (50 scored plus 15 unscored, mixed in at random) in 90 minutes, delivered as multiple choice or multiple response. AWS scores the exam on a scale from 100 to 1000 and sets the passing score at 700. There is no separate pass mark per domain — every scored question counts toward one overall score.

If you already know the clf-c02 syllabus, the next question is usually about the mechanics of the exam itself: how many questions, how much time, and how AWS turns your answers into a pass or fail. This page covers the clf-c02 exam pattern in full.

How many questions are on the clf-c02 exam?

There are 65 questions total. Of those, 50 are scored and 15 are unscored questions AWS uses to test new material for future versions of the exam. Unscored questions are mixed in at random and are not labeled, so you should treat every question on screen as if it counts.

CLF-C02 exam duration

You are given 90 minutes to answer all 65 questions. That works out to a little over a minute per question on average, though AWS does not enforce per-question timing — you can move back and forth within the 90-minute window and flag questions to review before submitting.

Question types

The clf-c02 number of questions is split across two formats:

TypeDescription
Multiple choiceOne correct answer, three incorrect distractors
Multiple responseTwo or more correct answers out of five or more options

Multiple response questions tell you how many answers to select, so read the question stem carefully — partial credit is not given for selecting some but not all correct options.

CLF-C02 passing score

AWS reports your result on a scaled score from 100 to 1000, and the passing score is 700. This is a compensatory model: AWS does not require you to pass each of the four domains individually, only to clear the overall 700 threshold across all scored questions combined. That means a weak showing in one domain can still be offset by a strong showing in another, which is one more reason the domain weights on the exam objectives page matter — heavier domains have more chances to earn (or lose) points.

How the mock reflects the real format

Our practice test mirrors this exam pattern using our own question set: our mock runs to the same 90-minute session length across the same four domains, with a score report broken out by domain so you can see where points were lost rather than just a single pass or fail number. See the practice test page for details on how that report works, and the sample questions page to see both question formats worked through with explanations.

Delivery format

The clf-c02 exam is delivered at a Pearson VUE test center or through Pearson VUE's OnVUE online proctoring, at your choice when you book. Both delivery options use the same 65 questions, 90 minutes and scoring model — see cost & booking for how to choose between them, and exam day for what to expect once you start the session.

Why the format matters for how you study

Because unscored questions look identical to scored ones, pacing is more important than trying to guess which questions are "real." With 65 questions in 90 minutes, spending too long second-guessing a single question can leave you rushing through the last stretch of the exam. A better approach is to answer every question once with your first, considered answer, flag anything you are unsure about, and only return to flagged questions if time remains.

The compensatory scoring model also changes how you should read practice results. A domain score report — like the one our mock produces — is most useful when you treat it as a map of where to spend the next study session, not as a set of separate pass or fail marks. A single overall score of 700 or above is what AWS looks for, built from your combined performance across Cloud Concepts, Security and Compliance, Cloud Technology and Services, and Billing, Pricing, and Support together. Reviewing the exam objectives page alongside your domain report makes it easier to see which specific objective statements, not just which domain, need another pass before you book through cost & booking.

Questions people ask

What is the clf-c02 exam pattern?

65 questions in 90 minutes: 50 scored and 15 unscored, delivered as multiple choice or multiple response. AWS does not tell you which questions are unscored, so every question should be answered as if it counts.

What is the clf-c02 passing score?

700 on a scaled score that runs from 100 to 1000. AWS uses a compensatory scoring model, so there is no separate passing threshold for each domain — only the combined score across all scored questions matters.

How long is the clf-c02 exam duration?

90 minutes for all 65 questions, with no fixed time limit per question. You can move between questions and flag any for review before you submit, as long as you stay inside the 90-minute window.

How many questions actually count toward my clf-c02 score?

50 of the 65 questions are scored. The other 15 are unscored questions AWS is trialing for future exam versions, mixed in randomly and indistinguishable from scored questions.

Does our mock use the same number of questions as the real exam?

Our mock uses our own question set and session length rather than copying AWS's exact scored count, but it keeps the same 90-minute pacing and domain structure so your practice experience matches the real exam's rhythm.
